Young and fashionable

Youth power is very evident at China Fashion Week that began on Tuesday.

Besides the opening event, the Hempel Award, which brought together 31 young contestants from 18 countries around the world, the "None and More at the Village," exhibition featured the works of recent graduates from the School of Design at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts.

The 90 works on display at The Village in Sanlitun can be viewed till April 6 and explore different aspects of fashion, society and culture.

Though simplicity is the theme of the season, the young designers have experimented with bold cuts and styles. The men's wear collection by Zhu Jun, an undergraduate student of the Fashion Design Department, while all in white features more curved lines in collars and even A-line cuts. His personal fashion brand Hommes Jaloux is representative of this individualized style.

Zhu's schoolmate Jin Wen adds checked patterns to her women's wear, and also includes trousers-like skirts and leggings, to reflect women's growing power in society.

Today, a seminar on ready-to-wear fashions will be held at 4:30 pm at D Park Library People Talk. The AsahiKASEI Chinese Innovative Fashion Design Contest will also offer a peek into the works of young designers at 8:30 pm at the Banquet Hall in Beijing Hotel. Tomorrow, there will be a Zhejiang Sci-Tech University Graduates Show at 1:30 pm at Beijing Hotel.
