Sotheby's to auction Belgian princess' royal jewels

Collectors will have a chance to purchase jewels, silver and artwork belonging to the estate of the Princess of Belgium when Sotheby's auctions the items in Paris on Dec.19.

Among the most noteworthy jewelry belonging to Her Royal Highness, Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte of Luxembourg, is an emerald and diamond bandeau-bracelet, circa 1920, offered to her mother Queen Astrid by her grandmother Queen Elizabeth to honor Astrid's birth. The piece is valued at about $19,000 to $31,000.

The collection also includes two diamond tiaras in their original boxes that the princess wore on her wedding day in April 1953.

The first tiara, by Henry Coosemans, features a removable 8.1-carat diamond ring and detachable brooch. Its estimated value ranges from $101,000 to $177,000.

The second tiara, by Van Cleef & Arpels, converts into a bracelet and necklace. Its estimated value ranges from $228,000 to $304,000.

Several wedding gifts of jewelry will also hit the auction block, including a variety of brooches and earrings from Van Cleef & Arpels and Jean Lantonnois.
